Cool 4th Graders

Fourth Grade Rats
If you are looking for a great little read a loud, my 4th graders enjoyed Jerry Spinelli's
 Fourth Grade Rats.
                          Fourth graders are tough. They aren't afraid of spiders. They say no to their moms.  And they never, ever cry.  Suds knows that now that he's in fourth grade, he's supposed to be a rat.      But whenever he tries to act like one, something goes wrong. Can Suds's friend Joey teach him to toughen up...or will Suds remain a fourth grade wimp?

Since we are writing informative/explanatory texts {and I needed to follow CCSS} I tied it all together with the Scholastic.Com biography on Jerry Spinelli. Most of my students LOVED writing a short  biography about someone that writes awesome books & who is still around. (that's prob mean sorry)

Jerry Spinelli won the Newbery Medal for Maniac Magee, the sixth of his more than fifteen acclaimed books for young readers. Growing up, he wanted to be a shortstop in the majors long before it occurred to him to be a writer. Crash came out of his desire to include the beloved PennRelays of his home state of Pennsylvania in a book. And, of course, to show the world a little bit about athletes and what makes some of them tick.

Scholastic also has an interview transcript written by students, which fit PERFECTLY into {CCR}

Integration of Knowledge & Ideas...I'm s-l-o-w-l-y- getting a handle on all this..

I have a GREAT Biography Pinterest Board..
It's full of awesome ideas for biography writing. check it out
